My Story

Dunja Slavic is an artist whom currently resides in the city of London, Ontario, however, this is not where her story begins…

Born and raised in what is today considered “Former Yugoslavia”, Dunja immigrated to Canada at the early age of eleven years old. To the present day, Dunja still holds very strong ties to this part of her history, as European influences can be denoted in her art. Although she was not formally trained as an artist, throughout childhood and adolescents, Dunja’s great interest in the arts resulted in her cultivating her own self-taught techniques and style of painting.

Dunja’s formal educational career included attending both Fanshawe College and the University of Western Ontario, where she majored in Social Sciences. Although she enjoyed her years of education in this space, Dunja’s passion for the arts drove her to devote much of her time post graduation to developing her artistic talents on a more professional scale.

The form of Dunja’s expression is diverse and includes from large energetic, colourful abstract pieces to figure, landscapes and even symbolic paintings. Today the majority of Dunja’s work is done on canvas with acrylics and oils.

The focal inspiration of Dunja’s art pieces come from her vast worldly travel experiences and adventures. Her greatest influence being her numerous month-long excursions in rural Africa where she immersed herself in local culture and raw wild life while on safaris. Dunja regards traveling as a not only her life’s greatest treasure and artistic influence, but also her greatest teacher as well!

This Beautiful land

Welcome to this beautiful land
Where peace and serenity abound
Its own sweet time, its own sweet pace
To lift your spirits with gentle grace

Allow your mind to let the world go
And follow the sea's ebb and flow
Find the inner peace in body and soul
To become, once more. refreshed and whole
